Pysanky Symbolism
In the pre-Christian era, Slavic people decorated pysanky to celebrate the arrival of spring. The egg itself, a symbol of life and birth, served as the perfect surface to adorn. Following the introduction of Christianity to the region, the traditional pagan symbols were adopted to serve as Christian symbols.
