Totemic Treasures
Welcome to Totemic Treasures.
I am an art educator of 15 years, a visual artist, and a passionate pysankarka. I learned to write pysanky as a child, but have been creating these magical talismans seriously since 2008. My pysanka are written using beeswax and kistka. Some motifs employ very traditional divisions and symbols while others are considered more contemporary in approach. I sometimes use modified bird feathers to apply wax, drop pull techniques, and etching. I enjoy experimenting with the process of wax resist and my creations often stray far from tradition.
Thank you for visiting my page and I hope you enjoy my work. If you are interested in learning this technique I offer workshops on occasion. Keep an eye on my events page for updates on where I will be teaching.

I chose the name Totemic Treasures for my egging creations because a totem is an object that serves as the emblem of a family and is often used as a reminder of their ancestry. Placing special belief in that totem by an individual is referred to as totemism. The belief I hold in the power of the symbolism in the pysanky and batik eggs I create is truly totemic. They are also of great value to me, making them treasures. Hence, the name Totemic Treasures.
